Plea to Mother Nature

Oh please, Mother Nature, would you cooperate with Air Labrador so that I can fly to Montreal as planned tomorrow morning? Otherwise my holiday would be quite short. And I’d miss out on some stuff. So please, please, please, please, be nice with me!

Craft fair is over!

So, Friday, after stepping out of the plane, I went home, got all my stuff, and headed to the Craft fair to set up! I was rushing a bit, but got it all done on time!

A closer view of the main wall…

Friday evening and all day Saturday I sold my stuff. Many many people from the village, who “know” me since I am a baby, were impressed with my work, that I was very talented… Some knew I took pics, but not that I could sew. Others were amazed at all the things I’d made. It was nice getting many compliments. And quite a few sales too. I made enough to cover all the materials used to make everything (even the leftover stuff) and about 1/3 of the material cost in net profit.

I’m happy! For a first experience, it was fun.

Bad weather again tomorrow?!

Crap! I wake up and turn on the tele and the weather lady is saying there will be bad weather again tomorrow… Means maybe I won’t make it to Montreal as planned because Air Lab has trouble flying when it’s not nice outside.

So I’m keeping an eye on the weather predictions… Montreal, snow-rain mix with 2-4 cm of it… And 4°C to -1°C. Blanc-Sablon, cloudy, snow mixed with ice pellets changing to rain in the evening, 0°C to -3°C.

So yea, not so sure I’ll sleep in Montreal on Monday night. With some luck yes. But I’m preparing myself mentally for the worse!

Exciting!!

Yay! The next few days are going to be exciting!!

Tomorrow the Craft Fair begins, and then continues on Saturday. Sunday I prep my suitcase, and then on Monday I leave for my week in Montreal! There I’ve got LOTS of stuff planned… Even too much maybe?? But yea, got to take advantage of my time in the city!

Stuck in La Tabatière

I am in La Tabatière, stuck. I came here yesterday, had meetings at the school, this morning I went to PACE and this arvo I was supposed to take the plane back. But the plane never came. It stayed in Blanc-Sablon this morning, it didn’t leave for its “bus run” to all the little villages of the Coast, because of the bad weather (wind/rain).

So yea. I’m stuck in La Tabatière one night extra. I really hope I can fly out tomorrow though, because I have the craft fair which starts at 17h!! But I’m lucky because the people here are very welcoming/helpful. For example, I wanted to go pick up some food (since I planned food wise until this arvo but I’m still here so wouldn’t have anything left to eat), so a lady from the Clinic brought me.

And I brought my laptop (though originally I thought about not) and am connecting on the net from the transit house where I’m staying, using the 10 hours of dial-up a month my high speed plan allows!

Starting to look forward to…

This weekend’s arts & craft fair!

I am still in full production mode! Recently I made wine bags, here’s one. For when people go for holiday dinners to bring their bottles to give in a nice packaging!

I also made Christmas ornaments with salt dough this weekend… All hand painted and packaged as a group of 3: tree, gingerbread man and star.

Yesterday I made this cloth bag, for a boy, for books/gym stuff/toys/whatever!

And today I made this apron, with a cute bird fabric pocket.

I hope sales will be good!

Turned back

This afternoon for work I was supposed to have meetings in St-Paul’s, a village about 40km’s away. So after lunch I went in the job’s mini car. But I didn’t get too far. As far as Brador East River the road was good. Passed that, it didn’t so good in the mini car. The road was snow-covered. There were two tracks towards the middle where cars had passed. You couldn’t see where the sides of the road were or the middle. The two tracks were kinda slippery. And there was a bit of snow drift. So I turned the mini car and went back home! I could have made it… Riding much slower… But yea.

For the first time this year…

I’m listening to Christmas music! Yay!

This morning I installed my Christmas lights outside, between two snowsqualls. The wind was blowing strong, but I was well dressed (snowpants, Winter coat, tuque, scarf & mits: the whole kit!) so I wasn’t cold. I can’t wait for tonight to light them up!

Because every day…

I feel I’m forgetting more and more of my Dutch, I thought it would be fun to write a post in that strange language.

Dus… Heb ik het gegeten! LEKKER!

Dat was mijn lunch verhaal.

I really can’t say no!

This morning someone at work came to ask me if I’d like to be the voice on the answering system… The automatic lady asking you to press this and that. I thought it would be a neat/different thing to do so I said yes.

So this arvo I recorded all of the many messages with the tech. The French went fine, the English I had words I tripped on a few times before getting it right, for example “respiratory therapy” (I skipped some syllables somehow) or the famous “and it will be a pleasure to help you” (I wanted to say “it’ll” all the time!) that’s at the end of each menu.

Once the new messages are up, I’ll never want to call at work because I’ll hear myself!

Library

This arvo my neighbour, who is also in charge of the community library (located in the school), called me to ask if I’d like to come help with the books. They have to do a rotation of the books every 6 months or so, sending some back to the main library and getting new ones in two weeks later. So I helped pull out the books from the shelves and box them up.

I saw some neat old books that brought back memories of my childhood, for example a Bibi et Geneviève book (a show I used to watch as a kid)! Wow, quelle antiquité!

It also reminded me of the good times I had going to the library with my father when I was young. I really enjoyed going to pick a book each week, it felt special, I felt like a big girl. And it’s good that kids nowadays still have that possibility.

The cat is not so nice at night

Last night she woke me up 4 times. I sleep with the door closed. She’s on one side (whole house for her, litter and food accessible) and I am on the other side in my bed. She MIAUUUUUUUUUUUUWWWS and scratches the door. I wake up. This happened at midnight, at 3h, at 4h and at 6h. Grrr! Let me sleep cat!

Pile

I love washing/drying (either dryer or hanging thingy) clothes, but when it comes time to folding, I hate it! So the clean clothes often sit in a huge pile… And the pile grows and grows… And sometimes I need an item so I hunt in my pile. And then the pile seems insurmountable.

Hoofdpijn, “Coin du cadeau” en kados

I have really bad hoofdpijn today! Ouch ouch! After Tylenols/Advils/nap it’s still hurting. I just hope it’s gone tomorrow morning when I wake up.

I wonder how much of my stuff I will sell for the “Coin du cadeau” arts and craft fair that’s coming up end of November. I hope I sell it all, would give me a nice xmas bonus! After this weekend, only one more weekend left to make stuff!

I wrapped 2 xmas gifts today… For mom… She had her souvenir Spain posters framed, and we both thought it’d be a good gift idea… So I went to get them at the store and wrapped them up already so she doesn’t see the finish product until xmas! She knows the posters, but she doesn’t know how good they look in these nice frames!

Revealed

For the past year, at work, I’ve been someone’s secret angel, and someone else was mine. We exchanged gifts/little thoughts throughout the year. I enjoyed giving my person all handmade stuff. And I enjoyed receiving special gifts from my angel.

Tonight the angels were revealed at a “5 à 7,” where everyone brought a nice dish to share. I made a chocolate cake with chocolate sauce at the bottom. It was neat to finally find out who my angel was! And to reveal myself too… Though the person I had already knew I was her angel somehow..!
