And my camera is broken so, 3 photos from my archive, chosen "au hasard"! Oz, ferry and Sydney... Montreal, walking a dog... Amsterdam, canal and boat...
Since I moved into my little basement office at work I'd been freezing... There's no heater in this place! So I asked my boss to get one installed. She said she sent in the request. 2-3 weeks later, still nothing, so I enquire again. She said she sent the request in long ago but would ask again. But here I was, freezing in my little office. This morning a maintenance dude came to put a new number on my door... My office is now number 0-071 instead of 0-112. Fine. Here was the opportunity to ask him about the heater request! He said he wasn't the one to handle electrical stuff, but he'd forward my request. A few minutes later he arrives with a portable heater, old and rusty, straight from the 70's! While waiting for the electrician to install the wall-mounted heating unit, this is PERFECT! Heat! My office is finally warm! I just drank a hot choco while being warmed by the old heater and I love it. I love feeling warm. Warm. Warm. Warm. Ahhhhhhhhhh heat.
-Leave your door unlocked... My mom only recently started locking her doors, and only at night. During the day when she's away, nothing is locked. And that's typical. Me, I really have my Montreal habits deeply encrusted and I always lock my door. -Leave your car doors unlocked... No one is going to steal your car... They can't go anywhere with it! -Leave the keys inside your car with the doors unlocked... See above. -Leave a package worth 700$ inside the car with the keys inside and the doors unlocked. Yep... Yesterday after packing my camera for shipping to the repair centre, I came to work and left the package in the car. After work I drove to the post office to mail it. *** I loved the weather last night. There was snow drifting... Because of snow fall with HEAVY winds. It was great to watch. And to drive in too! Passing in a snow bank on the road is awesome! I felt like a cowboy on his horse! *** At work today I was supposed to go to the nearby villages of St-Paul/Old Fort to see clients. But because of the weather my colleagues and I decided it was safer to not go this week. It's sucky because I had planned everything and made a lunch, but it's good to have a break from that trip. *** 9 dodos avant mon voyage vers Montréal!
My new fave thing to listen to at work is Dutch radio... I found a page with all the radios on it and you click which you want to listen to! I listen to Kink. It's neat because I can practice a bit my Dutch, for example during the news & the ads. And there's neat music! On a crappier note, mijn camera is echt stuk. Kapout. Brisée. Broken. I have to send it to repair. It's still under warranty, so we'll see how it'll go. I hope it doesn't take too long for it to be fixed and returned to me. It's my favourite thing... I feel "naked" without it around! Grrrrr...
Happy and I went to play outside in the snow. It's so pretty and flaky. Plus it is a beautiful evening, no wind at all. I like my Christmas lights. In the village I saw two other houses with theirs on too, so yea, early, but not alone! And then inside I made chocolate chip cookies from scratch. Now my house smells so good! And my belly is full. I had pics of all of this, but somehow my camera isn't working right now... It's kind of stressful because it's my favorite thing I own... But like mom said, it's something material, it can just be replaced. Though it wasn't cheap. Anyways... Hope it works with the new battery I'll try tomorrow!
My Christmas lights are on outside! I couldn't wait for December 1st before powering them up! They look so pretty and colourful in the dark night...! And since I'll be missing a week of them in December (while I'm in Montreal), I am just making up for lost time in advance!
Why are some people so defeatist? They say it won't work or it's impossible even before thinking about it, evaluating the real possibilities or trying it for a while! It's sooooooooo annoying to me! I've got an idea, I think it could work if people put their minds to it, and some people are scared to get out of their box and do something new. Who cares if we try and it fails? At least we will have tried! And with time and experience, it could only get better. Grrrr...!
I went to see the art exhibition of a Lower North Shore artist, Michael Osborne, at the municipal hall. And I bought a pretty painting on a ceramic. It's my wall souvenir for the year I'm spending in Blanc-Sablon. And I noticed something tonight... I've got many others on the walls too! For example... I have this painted plate from Greece... This Van Gogh reproduction from Holland... This aboriginal painting from Australia... And I like seeing that artwork from all around the world each day. It reminds me of place I've gone, things I've seen, experiences I've had, people I've met, and so on.
I don't drink coffee, but as a warm beverage I enjoy a hot choco once in a while. A few days ago I went to the machine at work to buy one. I put the 70 cents in for a large cup, press the buttons, it pours my drink and spits out 65 cents! It only charged me 5 cents for it! Mmmm! So today I tried it again. Yep, definitely 5 cents hot choco! It's the deal of the century! I guess they don't know there's a problem with it. I guess most people drink coffee, which really costs 70 cents. I guess they never checked on the machine's prices. So, I pay 5 cents for my hot choco! Anyone want one? Today's Photoblog pic is "Foam..."
Today is Happy's 9 months birthday! For her it's just like any other day. For me, it's a reminder that the time when I have to give her back is approaching quickly. I love her... She's really helping me with work too. Today a kid had to fill out a "word cloud," where I write a word in the middle of a sheet of paper and the kid writes all the words that comes to his mind around it. The word was "school" and the kid wrote "seeing Happy!" It's a kid that didn't really want to meet his previous workers, but with me (and Happy) he's excited to come in the room and work! So that really makes Happy special. Today's Photoblog pic, "The perfect surf wave," makes me wish we had a surf school here and I'd definitely try it again! Hopefully with better results than when I did it in Oz... Surfing is tough!
Today was my day off! Yay! I slept until 7h. Happy is really a dog-alarm! 7h is our usual wake up time. And to her it does not matter if it's weekday, day off or weekend, she's up at 7h! Grrrr! So I came to the living room and watched my recording of last night's CSI and Without a Trace. I was sad to see Sara Sidle leave the CSI team! She was my favourite character. Oh well! I'll survive it...! Hihi. Then I wanted to do something outside, because apparently this weekend it'll be mostly rainy. I decided to head out to Lac-aux-Bouleaux with Happy. Of course, as soon as we got there Happy ran as fast as a lightning bolt to the lake for a swim! The nuthead! The water is cold now! But that doesn't matter to her! The reason for our trip there was so that I could collect a few branches of Christmas tree to use to make a Holiday Wreath! Then I went to the store to get some wire and green nylon thin cord. Back home, I sat outside on the patio. And Happy was there too, tied though, or else she'd run away! I made in about 1h I guess... I put a ribbon I had kept from last year's balcony decoration and some of my tree ornaments. I hung it already... I know, it's mid-November. Usually I try to wait until December 1st. But today I felt like being crafty and I can't just put my final product in a box, eh! So it's on the outdoor wall of my house, near the door! I think I'm the first in the village to put a Christmas decoration up.
Tomorrow I've taken the day off, using my cumulated overtime hours. I CAN'T WAIT. I want to be lazy in bed all day (since it's predicting for bad weather anyways). And there's 22 more dodos before I go to Montreal!
Today I saw the first ski-doo riding around in the village... Barely enough snow to cover the ground and people get itchy to use their machines again! This dude was driving on the side of the road. As he crossed path with someone walking on the road, he put his arm up in the sky and did a big huge giant wave hello! I think he was proud/happy to be the first... That's what I think.
This morning at 8h I was ready. The sun was nicely rising in the sky, it seemed so pretty outside, so I decided to head out for 20 minutes with Happy. We went to the beach! She goes nuts there. Of course, she had to jump in the freezing cold water, but I called her so she would get out. I don't want her to get sick! So we walked along the beach... Well... Actually... I walked and Happy ran! And then at 8h25 I brought her home. No way she's coming to work all wet and sticky with sand! She had fun though, and so did I. A great way to start the day... I missed that beach so much while in Montreal!
