This morning it was all white and pretty outside when I got up! Then today I went to St-Paul's school for work. And it was Halloween! It was so nice to see everyone costumed! And they had a Cake Raffle going on too, as a way to raise money. They had 14 cakes. You could buy tickets and put them in the bag for the draw of the cake you wanted. I bought 10 tickets (5 for 1$) and put 2-3 tickets to win the three nicest cakes. I didn't win the first... Then comes the draw for the other cake I liked... And I won!!! I won a cake!!!!!! It's yummy. It's 19h20 and I've had a big group of 5-6 Halloweeners and then another little princess Halloweener and that's it! I really hope more will come... I have like 20 more bags of candy to give! But I doubt it... It's already 19h30 and really cold out... So... Yea... The cops are patrolling the streets too, with their lights flashing. Here in Blanc-Sablon it's rare that they use their lights... So I guess they are enjoying it too! Hihi! It's good that they are doing this, reminding drivers to be careful. Near my house the car stopped to chat with some Halloweeners.
There's snow falling outside... All day... And when I came out from work at 16h30 there was enough to cover the ground white! Ahhhhhhhhhhhh the first real snow!!! My pumpkin outside was a bit covered... Yay! Halloween is tomorrow! Today's Photoblog pic, "Baie de Bradore Bay"! I love random play on my iPod. It makes me listen to songs I'd forgotten and love.
"Pollies to answer your questions live on YouTube," what is a pollie?! 3 years after my stay in Australia, I still receive some Aussie newsletters, like from the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper. And that line was the title of an article. "Pollies..." Politicians! Of course... Aussies love shortening words. Just thinking a minute I also remember them using "brollie", "barbie" and "mozzie" (for umbrella, barbecue and mosquito). So cute. Good memories.
Living in the city I didn't really need much Winter gear. But being back in Blanc-Sablon, Winter is long and cold and to enjoy it you've got to be well equipped! So this morning I used the trusty Sears catalog and ordered Winter stuff: Sorel boots, snowpants and long underwear (communally called "longjohns").
This morning I did some pumpkin carving! It went well as I had a good small sharp knife! The toughest part was getting all of the yucky stuff out from the middle! Happy was curious as to what I was doing... She came to lick the pumpkin when it was done... Today's Photoblog pic is "Old wood quay."
I've had a headache on and off all day, it sucks. And I just have Tylenol, no Advil Liquigels which make it go away more easily... I feel like eating dessert, but I have none. So I am going to go make one now! Today's Photoblog pic is from my morning outing in Brador, "Old shed and quay..."
One of my last memories with my dog Pishum was a walk we took together in Brador in 1999. I had taken a picture there with Pishum. Today I went back to do the same walk with Happy. And I snapped a pic near the same spot with her.
Last night I did my radio show, it felt good, and I got home feeling energetic. So I decided to do my weekend cleaning right away, so I'd have Saturday and Sunday free to enjoy! I went outside to put my entrance rug to air. I wanted to come back in... But I couldn't!!!!! The door was locked!!!! And the keys were inside!!!! And Happy too! Here I was outside barefoot with no coat. That day the maintenance people came to my house to fix a list of tiny things... Arrange two doors that wouldn't close properly, change the smoke detector, paint some stuff and change the main entrance door's knob. A new knob, a round one with a little thing in the middle to lock/unlock. And I guess I didn't really check how it worked to make sure it was really unlocked... Thankfully I had left the car key in the car so I drove to my mom's. From there we called the hospital, the concierge called the maintenance dude, the maintenance dude came in at the hospital and went to get me a spare key. YAY! In the end all was good. Today I went for a walk in Brador with Happy. Of course she was sniffing everywhere and found twice dead seagulls she wanted to eat. YUCK! I had to distract her from them by calling her name and running away so she'd let them go, because she wanted her "snack!" Then walking back to the car, she was on the leash because it was on the main road. She saw something and decided to run for it! And well I went along...! Where we were on the side of the road it was a little steep with gravel. And well it was fine, I was able to stop myself from sliding and pull Happy back. But what was in my other hand? My camera, turned on! The lens ended up scraping the gravel. It left a big mark on it!!!!!! I was so mad at my dog. But yea, there's no point really... She didn't know it would happen! So hopefully it doesn't affect the pictures I take or else I'll have to get it fixed somehow. In the afternoon I went to walk near Mont Parent to join my childhood best friend's parents, J and M. They were there, choosing rocks from the shore for their landscaping. Happy once again found a dead animal, this time the bones of a duck. She ate the spinal column of the bird while I chased after her, trying to make her let go of it. I hope it won't be bad for her! I am so scared of dogs eating bones... My other dog, Pishum, died after eating chicken bones as they got stuck in her intestines. J and M also gave me some goodies! Two nice pieces of their smoked salmon from this year, 1 pack of moose grounded meat (for hamburgers) and a pack of chicoutai (a little berry fruit that I'll make jam with). Mmmmmmmmmmmmm! Anyways. Still, despite those bad lucks (locking myself outside, Happy eating dead birds and scraping my camera), I had a nice day. It was nice to be outside and enjoy the nice weather! Though now it's clouded over and it's humid/going to rain. Mom's gone to Newfoundland with her boyfriend this morning until Sunday evening. She's not around, so I am cooking at home tonight! I'm getting hungry and it's just 16h30... Hmmm... Last night I went to eat with her and Happy at the one and only resto, the Pizza Delight, it was alright.
This morning on my way to work I noticed a big red and white boat, between the village and Greenly Island, ankored there. It was a Canadian Coast Guard boat! Which one, I don't know... I tried to find on the Quebec division website if a boat was in our area... And the only one that could be it is "NGCC Pierre Radisson Québec Section 97", but I don't know if we are Québec Section 97? Or maybe it is a boat from the Newfoundland and Labrador float. Anyhow, it made me feel good and really a part of my country to see that boat there. Suddently I didn't feel like I was all the way so far from everything!
Sometimes it's tough coming up with a title for my post because it's a mix of everything I write about. So I decided to just put something I just saw outside as a title. Last night I did the dishes. And somehow my cable bill ended up in the sink's soapy water! I put it to dry, and this morning it was almost as good as new! I guess there's no more excuse not to pay my bill...! I did a little photoshoot with Happy this morning! The only way I found that she wouldn't come jumping for the camera thinking it was a toy was to hold a treat in my hand and say "reste"... And she stayed put, wanting that treat so bad. I have to do more this weekend. She's so pretty. I haven't watched Monday's Prison Break or last night's Sophie Paquin yet! I recorded them. As I was too tired to watch as they aired, and just wanted to sleep. I don't think I am a early morning work person. I feel tired since I'm in Blanc-Sablon. And it's the same tiredness as I felt working as an aupair in Amsterdam, when I had to get up at 6h45 for work too. Today is a long day at work... I've got a training day on the "trousses médico-légales/sociales". And then at 16h30 I'm going 50kms away to St-Paul's school with the school nurse to meet parents as they come to get their kid's report cards to talk about youth and sexuality.
If I had more than 2000$ in loose money to spend I'd buy this... Chris' bass guitar, from the Aussie band silverchair. Chris is amazing live... And I've seen him play songs with this bass! It would make it even more special. Plus the money goes to a good cause. But I don't have more than 2000$ just sitting around sadly. Oh and to think about it, I'd do tons of other things too with 2000$. Like a little trip somewhere.
We brought mom's car at the garage this afternoon to get it checked-up and put Winter tires on. After work I went with mom's boyfriend to see if the car was done. Except it wasn't. So I am left car-less! I decided to just have mom's boyfriend bring me straight home from the garage. And I made dinner here with Happy. I prepared a trout in aluminum foil with onion and lemon slices all wrapped up. It cooked nicely and mmm! With it I had simple potatoes and green/yellow beans. I also made little muffins for dessert. It's nice to eat at mom's but it's also nice to cook on my own once in a while. At dinner time I put on a movie I got from Zip, Reign Over Me. And I just finished watching it. It's such a sweet movie. And it wasn't done by the time Prison Break came on, so I am recording the episode to watch it later on. Now it's time for bath and bed. I'm exhausted. And Happy's been sleeping since like 19h. She'll be up again at 6h tomorrow I'm betting! Grrr! Nighty night!
J'ai échappé quelque Nerds sur le plancher et Happy avec son nez fin a été capable de trouver et manger ceux que je n'avais pas vus... Grrr! My Nerds! Eh oui... Crap! I just want to sleep!
