I picked up 2L of partridge berries, which in the end made 8 jars of jam! Mmmmmmmmmmmm! This week I'll go pick another 2L. That one I'll freeze without cooking, for further use this Winter like in pies or croustades or muffins. Mmmm!
Up a bit past 6h with Happy... And haven't stopped since... Finalized the last few things that were still dragging unpacking-wise. Cleaned outside Happy's poo and various detritus. Vacuumed the whole house and mopped the floors too. Cleaned the bathroom. Did a couple of loads of laundry and hung some clothes outside. And it's now 11h30. This arvo I'll go at Judith and Michel's house to pick partridge berries off of their land. Apparently there's lots.
Not yet though...! I've just booked my plane ticket for my Winter holiday! Happy and I will be coming from December 7th to the 16th. During that time I've got a few things already planned: Happy's Mira meeting, a Leafs-Habs hockey game and Christmas gift shopping! I don't know where I'll stay... Bum a couch/bed at a friend's? In a hotel? I'll see...
I can get up at 6h when Happy wakes me... But what's sucky is having to shower, get dressed and leave for work by 8h30. I love to just lazy around at home... And around like 10h I'd be ready mentally to do all that stuff. But yea. Tomorrow I'll be able to relax. I love holidays. I love Halloween, Christmas, Easter, my birthday, etc. I like making special cards/decorations. And I get started a lot in advance! Last night I made mini cards using glitter cardstock for Halloween. They'll accompany the candy bags I'll distribute to the kids that will come by... I cut/drew pumpkins and ghosts, with messages written on the back like "Happy Halloween!" or "Don't forget to brush your teeth!" Cute eh?! Now I just have to buy the candy... Mmmm!
In the hunter-gatherer society the women and the men both had their jobs. The women stayed around the house to take care of everything and they picked berries, etc. The men went out to hunt or fish. Today I thought about that... Because after work I went out with Happy in the field next to my house. I picked up some graines rouges, botanically known as vaccinium vitis-idaea... Or more simply people around here call them partridgeberry. In about 40 minutes I picked up a cup. It's tough because they grow right low on the ground. I'll go again in the week for sure. These berries are really yummy in jams or pies! Mmmmmm! But sugar is essential, and lots of it, because this little fruit is strong tasting otherwise! So I did my part. Now, where's my hunter boyfriend? There were nice geese flying in the sky! Mmmmm!
I ate dinner at mom's. Then came home. Cleaned the dishes. Took a bath. Ate a croissant with Nutella. And now at 19h30 I'm going to go watch tele, lazy in bed. Though the tele in my living room is nicer/bigger, nothing beats laying horizontally, surrounded by comfy pillows, in my bed! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Bed. Today the whole day I was tired. Because of Happy! At 6h this morning she just would not sleep anymore (barking a bit, paws on the side of the bed, moving around a lot, sniffing everywhere, etc). And I got up with her. If she does that again tomorrow morning I'm going to put her alone in the guestroom until it's 7h. Come on! I need my sleep! Especially when I have to be up and functionning so early in the morning.
Tonight's sunset was really pretty... Changing dramatically as time went by. These pics were taken from my mom's house. This one right after work at 16h30... The second one about an hour later at 17h30... And the last one 30 minutes later, around 18h...
Last Tuesday I ordered shoes on Aldo's website... And tonight they arrived on the plane! Yep... Shipped with UPS from Rimouski to Sept-Îles. From Sept-Îles to Blanc-Sablon on the Air Labrador cargo. All in 6 days. For here, that's a pretty amazing delay! I really like my new shoes! They are a bit fancy, but still casual. Perfect for work! With pants or skirts! And Happy likes them too...
This arvo, a bit bored and tired of unpacking boxes, I went out with Happy for a walk! First we headed out to the beach... There's a long sandy beach, but on the other side there's a rocky coast and field. I headed for that direction! Happy went in for a dip... I quickly found out that sea-urchin's aren't only a Japanese delicacy... Yep! Happy loves them too! She quickly ate the dried shells she found along the coast. I tried to stop her, but she'd just run away and continued eating! I am so sure it's not good for her! These things have little spikes! So I put her on a leash and we went to the Lac à Boulaux instead. There in the lake no sea-urchin was to be found! Plus Happy was all wet with sea water, so it cleaned her off with fresh water! She really loves to go swim! Today's Photoblog pic was taken at "Lac à Bouleaux".
Today continued the unpacking! I'm mostly done... I have boxes to take apart and store away, a few things to find a home for, some curtains to hang, and frames to hang... And that's it! But mostly this house is more like my home now! I set up my desk in the living room, in front of the window that faces to the sea (and a bit of my neighbour's house too)... It's a BEAUTIFUL view! Makes me happy.
I'm in laundry heaven! Not only do I have my own washer/dryer, in my house, but I also have a clothes line outside! The window drapes flowing in the wind to dry looked so pretty! I did like 5 loads of laundry today! It's so neat not have to pay 1.50$ x 2 each time! This morning around 10h30 I went to the wharf with my mom's boyfriend and a friend to pick up my boxes! 2 pallets full! It went quickly still. And I spent all day unpacking. It's starting to feel like home now! My stuff in the kitchen... My own bedsheets/duvet cover... My back hurts now though. But I don't want to stop. I feel like I can't rest until everything's in place!
Today for work I drove to St-Paul's and Old Fort. Happy came along for the ride. It must have been boring for her all day in the car. Though I did let her out a few times to run around and stretch her legs and play around... The landscape here is radically different than that of Montreal. For one, here trees are almost non-existent. And the trees we have are small scrubby conifer trees! Mostly it's moss, rocks, small plants, flowers in the Summer, berries... that cover the ground. Tomorrow my mom's boyfriend will recruit some people and we'll go get my boxes at the wharf! The boat is supposed to arrive tonight or tomorrow early morning! YAY!
I have to learn to be less sensitive... So a bit of me "qui ventile"! Earlier this afternoon a colleague came to me with a demand that was faxed for services in a school, regarding good healthy habits and the dangers of alcohol consumption as a pre-teen. She gave the request to me, not knowing too well how to handle the alcohol part. I asked another colleague for documentation and started to put something together, a rough idea. Then later yet another colleague who has a role in planning things as well came to me and sort of told me what I'd been working on wasn't her idea or how she'd do things, and she gave me some material she had. Sure, that's perfect, the stuff she gave me is good! It's just the way it all happened it made me feel stupid, for "starting right away," like she said. But I'm like that! I like to get a good head-start on things, to put my ideas out on paper (or computer). To make it look good! It doesn't take me much more time than doing it scrabbled on a piece of paper. Grr... It's all good. Except that I'm still getting adjusted to this big box way to work things. That people all have a hierarchy and roles and and and. It's so far away from what I studied, for example the model (I forget the name) where there is NO boss, where employees acquire skills, and the more skills they have, the more responsibilities they have too. The duties rotate through the team. That way everyone can do everything! From managing, to doing, and everyone gets an idea of what it's like. Tomorrow Friday I won't be at my office! I'm going to the villages (St-Paul and Old Fort) to see clients in their homes. And Happy will be on the road with me! Hopefully my boxes will arrive on the Relais Nordik tomorrow and I'll start unpacking over the weekend. Weekend! Yay!
