Short walk outside

So I just went outside for a little walk in the park that's near my house. First I mailed a DVD back (I have a Zip.ca account) and then went off in the park. It was deserted. Of course, it's raining! But I find it so nice to just walk slowly in the rain. Looking at everyone around me rushing under an umbrella to get to a dry place. The plants were happy to get some nice water I bet... Plant And no one was on the swings... Swing Now I'm back home. I've change clothing as my pants were all wet from only 15 minutes outside... And I don't know what to do. I have been watching television all day until now. It's a bit boring. Just a tiny bit.

Rain

So hurricane Katrina is now in Montreal. Thankfully it's no longer a hurricane. But it's still raining heavily and it's windy. I like this weather! Especially when I don't HAVE to go out... But maybe I'll go out for a leisurely walk later on if I feel bored!

Movie morning

This morning I woke up at 8h. I couldn't sleep anymore... So I had breakfast and watched a movie. I just finished seeing Bully. These kids were really screwed up! And at the end I found out it's based on a true story. In the special features there were photos of the real kids that were portrayed in the movie. What can I do this afternoon...?

Old holiday pictures

I feel like posting pictures but I haven't been using my camera much lately so I have none to post! So how about going back in time and posting a picture from some of my favorite holidays. I feel like being away and travelling right now. But in a week I start university again. I've got 1 year left in my undergrad study and then I've got to decide what to do next. I will make an appointment at career planning so they can help me figure out things maybe! But for now... Let's go back in the past and revisit some of my favorite spots... Greece - Lesvos Island Greece Singapore - Chinese neighbourhood Singapore Australia - Sydney on New Years Eve Australia The Netherlands - Amsterdam canal The Netherlands Belgium - Leuven town hall Belgium Italy - Venice Italy Denmark - Copenhagen's Nyhavn Denmark

Beach volleyball

Today I worked at the beach volleyball tournament at Jarry Park. It was quite nice! It was a short shift, from 11h to 16h45 so time went by quickly. I was teamed up with a guy that enjoyed watching the games so we watched 4 finals almost in full. The first was the Dutch team (GO NETHERLANDS!) against Brazilians for women's bronze, the Dutch lost. Then it was the men's bronze final with two Brazilian teams. Then later women's and men's gold/silver, ALL Brazilian teams! Here are pictures of the men's podium and the women's podium. The men's final was pretty good! They gave it their all! Was a nice show. And the atmosphere in the little tennis court (turned into a beach with tons of sand on the court) was nice too! Music in between plays, people dancing and cheering! It was quite different than the tennis which was also there a few weeks ago! I enjoyed my day. It was so fun I think I'd go to this event next year with a bought ticket and really sit and enjoy the games! When I got home I was starving! I had dinner (fondue meat, rice, tomatoe and cucumber slices) but was still starving after! So I had a bowl of cereals. And now I'm still hungry.

Party in the park

This morning when I took the metro to get to work I heard a message saying the green line was closed due to a police operation. It did not affect me as I was travelling on the blue and orange lines. But now I'm back home and I just read what it was... According to this Radio-Canada article it was a 12 pack of eggs that was left on a bench in a metro station and it was handled as if it could be a bomb. So that's why they closed a few stations on the green line for a couple of hours! It was not a bomb. Only eggs. I'm glad they are being careful/alert/etc. Work was not so bad today... It was a party in a parc... A lot of different ethnic communities of Montreal. There was also live music all day long, all local acts, from rock to rap to gospel. We walked around in the park. It took a while before my partner and I got our dinner break. We were both starving and getting grumpy! But finally we went to eat at McDo (her choice) and I had a ceasar salad with chicken and a 7up. My colleagues were nice and we had a good laugh, especially towards the end of the shift! At 21h I left work. At 21h30 I was home. I took a cold shower (I was burning!! It was sunny and warm all day!) and now I'm ready to relax a bit in front of the television before going to bed. Tomorrow working again... It'll be only 5h (compared to today's 9.5h) so it should go by quickly!

Today

Today is a day where I feel like just staying home, in my pjs and do nothing. Watch television/movies, eat, surf the net, etc. But I've got work from 12h to 21h.

My mom’s gone… Ikea arrived… and work!

Well my mom is gone now. I was with her 7 days. A week. A few days in Quebec City and she spent a few here in Montreal with me. I'm happy to be back alone in my appartment but I also miss having her around to chat with, have dinner with, etc. I miss my mommy! And she forgot 2 important pieces for the rest of her holiday: her rain jacket (I hope she gets only sunshine from now on!) and her digital camera! I'll have to mail them back to her using insurance on the parcel! Today I went to Ikea with mom and her friend. My mom bought me a new bookshelve which I am using mainly to put CDs and DVDs. I didn't want to buy a plain old CD holder because the bookshelve is more convenient as it can be used to store different things... I already put the bookshelve together! It was fun! I also got a long mirror. I put it on the wall in my bedroom behind the door. I had none... I used to have a look downstairs in the lobby of my appartment building... It's all mirrored there! But this is better... I can have a look at myself to make sure my clothing don't look too crazy BEFORE I step out of my place! Tomorrow I'm working from 12h to 21h in Little Burgundy neighbourhood... I wonder what kind of event is going on there... And Sunday at the Jarry Park for the sand volleyball tournament. And that's it...

Back home…

So I'm back from Quebec City... In a sentence the rest of the stuff I did was... I went for a walk in Old Quebec and ate my mom's yummy Morokan couscous. Yesterday my mom's friend, my mom and I drove to Montreal. My mom has been staying in my appartment. The only thing I find annoying is that she smokes. And my appartment is non-smoking. But then she goes on the tiny fire escape balcony to smoke. And the smoke still comes inside. And it stinks! The rest is nice to have mom here. Yesterday afternoon when we got here we watched a movie together. And today we went on a city tour.

Quebec City Day 2: Shopping, lunch, cinema.

Yesterday we did stuff around the house until 11h and then my mom's best friend (as well as her son's girlfriend) came to pick us up. The 4 of us then went to the shopping centre. My mom and I went shopping for clothing for mom and the other 2 went off shopping for things they needed. 2h later we met up again, all of mom's Summer shopping was done. I was very efficient! Then we went to a restaurant for lunch. I had a lasagna with a ceasar salad. It was good. Afterwards we headed to the cinema. We saw Red Eye. It was a good movie, a thriller that was bit predictable, but I jumped once. I enjoyed it. Then we came home and in the evening I learned to play poker with my brother. I won too! We used macaroni pasta (uncooked) as a betting tool.

Quebec City Day 1

I'm in Quebec City! I took the 12h bus from Montreal and at 15h I arrived at my brother's appartment where he and my mom were. As usual the few first hours were a bit hectic, we were all excited, talking about different things, unpacking for my brother, etc. We had a nice dinner together that my mom cooked. This evening I went with my mom to visit the new appartment of a school classmate/friend from back home of mine. He, his girlfriend and his mom were there. It is a really nice appartment! They did a good job decorating. And now I am really tired... It's been a long day, waking up early for my exam and then taking the bus to Quebec City. My mom says that she's so happy to see me after 6 months and enjoyed it when I showed her all the video's from my European trip!

Exam done!

Filed under: Montreal — Christelle @ 10:43 am
I finished my exam in about 40 minutes. I believe I got at least 3/4 of the questions good. So I calculated that tentative mark with marks I received until now and it gives me about B+ at the worse to A- at the best. So I am happy... The class is over. I have 10 days left before the Fall semester starts. And now I'm going to Quebec City! Bye bye!

Going to see my family!

30 minutes later and I'm taking my first break from studying. I have a very short attention span when it comes to shoving information in my brain and trying to remember it all, all these complicated terms. But anyways... I'm going to go pack my bag for tomorrow! I'm going to Quebec City for a few days. My mom is already there, she arrived Monday the 15th from my little hometown. And tomorrow my brother is also flying back from my little hometown (where he spent his Summer holidays) to Quebec City. So it'll be our little family reunion! I can't wait! And it's my mom's birthday too this weekend, on Sunday.

Movie instead of studying

Filed under: Montreal — Christelle @ 5:13 pm
I just watched The Aviator... I didn't know it was close to 3h long when I decided to watch it! It took out a mighthy big chunk of studying time out of my schedule! But it was an alright movie...! Am I going to regret it tomorrow at 9h when I'm sitting in that classroom facing the final exam? We'll see! Now I'm off to study. For real!

Paintings, movie and now… maybe study?

Today I really don't feel like studying. I've been delaying it all day! This morning I burned pictures to CDs to make sure I have a copy archived if something happens to my computer. Then I made two paintings inspired by Rothko colour block paintings using red/black/dark purple. I framed them when they were dry. And they are now hanging on my bedroom wall. It looks nice! And after that I watched a movie! A Really Long Engagement (Un long dimanche de fiancailles) was a really nice movie! I want to watch it again before sending back the DVD. And now it's almost time to cook dinner. And I'm really hungry! So when will I study? Tonight... Maybe!
